Zachary D. Gassoumis

USC Gerontology

Zach Gassoumis is a doctoral candidate in gerontology at the University of Southern California's Davis School of Gerontology.

In 2004, Zach graduated from the University of Durham, England, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree (Honours) in Natural Sciences with an emphasis in psychology and anthropology.

After finishing his undergraduate studies, he returned home to northern California, where he worked as an assistant manager of operations in retail banking. At USC, Zach's research has focused on the economics of aging and elder abuse, two distinct but overlapping themes within gerontology.

He has explored these topics so far through several projects, including Latinos & Social Security and a project to develop an instrument that can measure the prevalence of elder abuse.

"This project is breaking new ground in the quest for information about U.S. Latinos. By rigorously characterizing the Latino baby boomer population, we hope to provide policymakers with new evidence from which to create policies for this country's next generation of retirees."
